Save a Sato

Save A Sato is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to easing the suffering of Puerto Rico's homeless and abused animals. "Sato" is slang for street dog. We rescue Satos from the streets and beaches, give them medical care, food and shelter, and plenty of love. When they are healthy, we send them to one of our shelter partners for adoption into loving homes. For more information, please read our Mission Statement.

This documentary is about the overpopulation of dogs in Puerto Rico. “100,000” explores the different alternatives available so that Puerto Rico can take action to eliminate this problem. The different topics that will be discussed are: myths about sterilization, the law against animal abuse, the cultural problem of abandonment of animals, adoption of animals, education of how to take care of a pet, and many others. Watch the trailer and then sign the pledge below.

Urgent Request

We use hundreds of pounds of newspaper per month to line the kennels at the shelter. We were receiving newspaper weekly from a distrubutor that can no longer assist us. We urgently need a steady supply of newspaper - either bundled or shredded and ready for the kennels.

If you know of a resource where we can get large quantities of newspaper/matte paper at no charge such as a distributor, printer or recycling center, or are willing to bundle and deliver your clean, dry newspaper to the shelter please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

We need newspaper every week so will need many volunteers to help!

This would be a great project for Girl Scout Troops, school children and other groups - ask your neighbors or local businesses to save their newspaper and collect a bundle each week. If you would prefer to shred the newspaper and deliver it to us that way please tear it into 1inch strips and store in garbage bags. This would save us a lot of time but is not necessary.
